Graff purchased Lesedi La Rona, the largest diamond in the world from Lucara Diamond Corp. This historic 1,109 carat diamond rough has been sold for $53 million ($47,777 per carat). The Lesedi La Rona was recovered from Karowe mine in Botswana in November 2015. This price was higher than the highest bid recieved at the Sotheby's auction in june 2016.
Everyone is waiting to see what Graff will create from this rough. He is known for his knowledge about how to get the maximum from a diamond crystal. " We are thrilled and honored to become the new custodians of this incredible diamond. The stone will tell us its story, it will dictate how it wants to be cut, and we will take the utmost care to respect its exceptional properties. This is a momentous day in my career, and I am privileged to be given the opportunity to honor the magnificent natural beauty of the Lesedi La Rona " Laurence Graff commented. Graff also purchased the 373 carat diamond earlier this year, which formed part of the original stone

According to De Beer's forecast, there will be a steady growth in diamond demand in second half of 2017. The sales of diamond is going to rise modestly in the States. Also, the demand from India and China is likely to increase. The company has increased its rough sales about 7% this year. The rough prices have begun to rise due to increase in demand. Through the first half of the year the average price of rough was down about 12% because of the shift toward smaller and lower quality goods. De Beer's is going to produce 32 to 33 million carats of diamonds this year, compared to 30 million carats in 2016. De Beer's group of companies is an international corporation that specializes in diamond exploration, mining, retail, trading and manufacturing. Until the 21st century, De beer's had total control over the diamond market. Currently, the company sells about 35% of the world's rough diamond production.
